Detention Ministry supports incarcerated individuals of all ages
and genders through visitation, education and aligning them with God.
Individuals who are served by this ministry are in dire need of
help. Many are at the low point of their life. Just as Christ helped
all those in need, so does this ministry.
How to participate:
- One-on-one visitations with those inmates that have requested
assistance from the ministry.
- Participate in Mass with the prison community by serving as Eucharistic
ministers, music leaders, and ushers.
- Following the Eucharistic service, the readings and Gospels are
discussed and the messages are personalized.
- Interested inmates are given training to deliver the readings
and to act as altar servers.
How to prepare to serve:
- Orientation Day: Come
join us at the prison on a Sunday morning to experience our ministry.
We will attend mass with the prisoners and receive communion together.
Orientation will follow conducted by the prison Chaplin. During
this one morning you will experience the challenge and rewards of
this very critical ministry.
- Second Visit: Your
orientation continues by joining with an experienced detention minister
in one-on-one and group sessions with inmates who have requested
a visit.
- Archdiocesan Training: Prior
to committing to the ministry, interested parishioners will undergo
a two day training session given by the Los Angeles Archdiocese.
