Justice and Peace Ministry opens a dialogue and raises awareness
within the parish on such issues as child abuse, poverty, the plight
of the elderly and prisoner’s rights.
Parishoners participate by being part of ad hoc and special committee
programs, such as the “Safe Guard the Children Committee” mandated
by the Los Angeles Archdiocese. Actively contribute your position
on social issues by writing articles and position statements and submitting
them for publication on the Justice and Peace website.
Our ministry's mission is to:
- Educate the parishoners of St. Mel Parish
in the principles of Catholic social teaching and its application
to local, national, and international issues.
- Advocate for public policy which affirms
human life and human dignity through a consistent life ethic.
- Develop a constituency on social concerns.
How to participate:
- Discuss current issues of social justice.
- Prepare topics for discussion.
- Review articles for possible inclusion in the Justice and Peace
website.
- Attend conferences with diverse groups sharing a common interest
in social outreach.
- Lend support to select activities and campaigns consistent with
Catholic social teachings.
